Back to You: A Dash of Grammer and Laughs

Back to You brings back something indeed: memories of what light, good fun we used to have with primetime sitcoms like in the days of Friends and That 70’s Show. They’ve not been erased from the primetime line-up, but they certainly have been overshadowed by hour-long dramas and comedies like The Office and My Name Is Earl that are comedy beyond the title of a sitcom.

Back to You won’t be causing any big sensation, but it certainly has its laugh out loud moments, slightly more than corny humor, and of course, some good characters and acting (and also some of the bad as well). It’s hard not to have a soft place in your heart for Kelsey Grammer and it’s hard to deny Patricia Heaton’s wit and talent as well.

Besides the main characters, Fred Willard is as usual good for some laughs and inappropriate jokes and rants, and a newer face, Josh Gad – a bit of a knock-off Chris Farley type – makes for a great young, overachieving, and very anxious news room manager. The ditzy weather woman on the other hand, well, she we could do without.

Overall, the comfort of a sitcom and Dr. Frasier Crane returning to TV in an alternative form is a good, fun way to spend a half-hour to relax and enjoy some laughs on a Wednesday night.
