Entourage’s Rhys Coiro Joins 24

10m.jpgAnother new addition to 24 this season: Rhys Coiro, the crazy Billy Walsh on Entourage… yet another interesting casting choice. Coiro definitely has a distinct character of the moody and eccentric film director on Entourage, so I’m curious to see what character he morphs into for 24.

He’s already popped up all over the place on our TVs including as a guest star on Ugly Betty, Six Feet Under, CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, Numb3rs, and Criminal Minds, so I’m sure he’s proved himself to be ready to be a full-on cast member of 24 (IMDb).

As 24’s other recent cast member Janeane Garofalo (more) told Sun Media, “…she and Coiro’s characters will work closely together on a counter-terrorism task force. But she has no idea whether they turn out to be good or bad guys” (McQueen). I suppose this is a trend in TV writing to keep the actors and actresses in the dark about the future of their characters.

This past season on Lost, Dominic Monaghan, who played Charlie, didn’t discover until he read the script for the final episode that his character was going to die (more). The same happened to Misha Barton in her role as Marissa Cooper on The O.C. So, though I doubt 24 is planning to kill off Garofalo or Coiro’s characters quite yet, though it sounds a little cruel to keep their characters’ true natures and fates a secret from them, Garofalo has a good point when she says, “‘They don’t tell you in the long term…because they don’t want it to affect how you might behave'” (McQueen).

With the 24 cast continually expanding, it should make for a very interesting upcoming season! Season 7 is currently scheduled to premiere in January 2008.
